Papa

My grandfather, Papa, the man who taught me wonder and joy. Losing him in 2021 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic from tens of miles away, was one of the hardest things I have experienced. He has become a large facet of my works which have been expressed in a variety of ways; from the skills he taught me, the laughter and memories we shared, and where I presently see him in the world.

This drawing was created it some of my strongest moments of grief, a grief I have still not yet overcome. This remembrance of him sits proudly at his wife's, my Nana's, kitchen; where he can still overlook meals and gatherings shared, a part of his family forevermore.
